Frequently Asked Questions

For many years we have been asked many questions about what we do.

Here are some frequently asked questions about chiropractic and their simplified answers. In case you have more specific questions you are welcome to call or email our office. We will be happy to help and provide answers to your enquiries.

A New Zealand government study found that chiropractic adjustments are remarkably safe. By avoiding drugs and risky surgery, chiropractic care enjoys an excellent track record. A thorough exam can identify the rare person for whom chiropractic care might be unsuitable. Compare the statistics. Adjustments are about 100 times safer than taking an over-the-counter pain reliever. Chiropractic is so gentle and safe that even new-born babies and infants are regularly adjusted, safely.

This will vary with each individual.

At first, it mostly depends on how long you have had the problem, your previous health history, any trauma or accidents and many other factors. After your assessment, we will recommend the best options for your health including how frequently you need to have care. For some people this will be short-term pain relief, while others need a more intensive correction.

When we look at cost I have to mention 2 aspects. Firstly what it will cost you to receive Chiropractic care and then what it will cost you not to receive the care.

To receive care in our office we have designed the fees to allow you and your family to receive the highest quality care at an affordable fee. The longer you receive Care the less stress and tension is in your body, the greater the benefits. Our fees reflect this.

You can pay each time you come or you can buy a block of care. Quite simply the more you buy the more you save. If there is a second family member who lives at home with you, they are only charged the concession fees.

All the evidence tells us that uncorrected Spinal problems get worse the longer they are left. No body likes to have an unexpected bill, even when it occurs as a result of an accident. To leave a problem or to simply only get some short term relief will eventually cost more, both in pain and suffering, as well as money. Why wait? The price of the adjustment is known, but the value is priceless.

Often described in practice as a partial dislocation, a subluxation is when the vertebrae move slightly out of alignment causing pressure or irritation to the nerves.

The spine loses normal motion and/or position and can have an affect on the nerves involved and vertebrae around the subluxated area. As the vertebrae are not functioning properly this can cause wear and tear on the discs and associated ligaments, muscles and other spinal tissue.

This nerve interference results in the body operating at a reduced rate. Pain, inflammation and tenderness often follow. Once the nervous system has been impaired via a subluxation, the overall health and wellbeing of the person is at reduced.

We correct the interference through gentle movements of the spine. This is usually done with the hands, which relieves the pressure to the nerves therefore assisting in correction and improving the health of the nerves.

A chiropractic adjustment is the only way to correct subluxations. Our practice uses different techniques depending upon the needs and preference of the patient.

Subluxations are caused through varying ways. They can be responses to physical, emotional, chemical or genetic factors.

Physical:  birth process, slips, falls, car accident, poor sleeping habits, repetitive motions, sports injuries, bad postural habits etc.

Emotional: stressful conditions such as family problems, divorce, death in family, work stresses, life problems and not being able to manage stressful situations.

Chemical: external pollutants in the environment, smoking, drugs, car fumes, alcohol, poor diet.

Genetics:  Many health problems can run in families.

Muscle weakness or imbalance from stress, obesity or lack of exercise are all contributing factors to Subluxations.

Most patients actually wait until they have a symptom such as pain until they seek chiropractic help. They can have a range of symptoms including headaches, tenderness and pain in the neck, shoulders, lower back. Poor posture (such as forward neck) and mobility problems can also be associated with subluxations.

A Chiropractors purpose is to keep your body maintained free of nerve interference therefore helping people live healthier and fuller lives. Chiropractors specialise in the spine and nervous system and believe in optimum health through an optimal functioning spine and nervous system. Chiropractic is founded on the science of the nervous system and physiology. Chiropractic is based on the belief that the innate intelligence that can grow a single cell into a human being, can also heal the body if the nervous system is free from interference. Chiropractors locate and remove Subluxations through giving Spinal Adjustments thus freeing our systems of Subluxations and allowing the innate to transmit fully and freely to all our body’s systems.

Everyone can benefit from having a spine free of subluxations.

Absolutely! Children and babies can benefit greatly from chiropractic care.

These little ones are very physically active and prone to experience many types of falls and blows from activities of daily living. Injuries such as these may cause many symptoms including stiffness, soreness or discomfort. This is why we recommend all children get checked as early as post-birth. As for chiropractic care, Dr. Wayne is specifically trained to check and give gentle adjustments to newborns, babies, toddlers and children.

No. Chiropractors are primary healthcare professionals and therefore DO NOT require a referral from a medical doctor. Following a consultation and examination, the chiropractor will arrive at a diagnosis under chiropractic care, or refer the patient to the appropriate health care provider.

If your current health plan have specific referral requirements, you may want to check your insurance plan or consult your employer’s human resources department to find out if there are any referral requirements.

Yes. Chiropractors are primary health professionals thus they are covered by ACC. If you happen to have an accident, our Chiropractor can file an ACC Claim and your treatment cost will be partially covered by ACC.

Once the patient have gone beyond the ‘correction’ stage, the patient can opt to stop or continue chiropractic as part of his/her maintenance healthcare routine. In short, one can keep receiving care as long as they want and continue to enjoy the benefits.
